My Wrestling Achievements
When I started out wrestling it wasn’t something I was really into. But as the season progressed I started to understand it more. I started to get more into it. I mean what kid doesn’t want to slam someone and not get in trouble? School wrestling was definitely something that most kids like and I can see why now that I have experienced the sport.
School wrestling was the only wrestling I knew of until I was introduced to other types of wrestling. Such as states Conference, County, and States. These are the things that I was introduced to. In conference it was a very different experience. There were kids in there that had been wrestling longer than I had been living. They knew wrestling moves that I couldn’t even find in my imagination. But I still held myself together and came in 4th place. Not bad for my first year of wrestling.
Then there were counties. This was the qualifying stage to get to states. If I didn’t qualify here my wrestling days were over until next year where I would have to try my luck again. There were about 4 kids in my weight class so it wouldn’t be very hard to qualify. All I had to do was come in at least 3rd place to advance to states. I blew by my first opponent easy. No sweat. Then after him I had to wrestle a person that had been wrestling basically his entire life. I beat him but it was anything but easy. My last opponent was a very good opponent. He gave me a run for my money and in the end he came out on top. I came second in County. I was going to states.
States was unbelievable. I had never seen so many people gathered at one place. You couldn’t turn around and not see a match taking place. I had an immediate match. As soon as I arrived I had to weigh in and get ready. My first opponent gave me a run for my money but I came out on top. One match down, three to go. My next opponent was a very fast and agile person. He slipped through everything I threw at him. He beat me with a score of 3-4. I was so close. I didn’t get down on myself because I still had a chance to become 2nd in state. My next opponent was strangely the person I had beat for my first match. Now three minutes might not seem like a lot of time. But trust me it takes a lot out of your body. My last match was like the last battle scene out of a hero movie. We were going back and forth in scoring points. It was the last 30 seconds of the match. We were tied at a score of 6 to 6. We were both exhausted and it felt I was going to collapse right there on the mat. Suddenly, my opponent flipped me over and took the match with a final score of 8-6. I took fourth in state.
I tried my hardest to fight back tears but they just came uncontrollably. Fourth in state to me wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either. My mom came up and told that I had done a wonderful job and that she was proud of me. I was proud of myself too but I really felt I could have done better. The next day everybody had questions on what had happened and how I did. After telling everybody I had come fourth in state, my friends were happy for me and that cheered me up. The next day in school I had my fourth place medal around my neck, and I was proud to be called fourth in state. And I have to admit, I don’t think I would have gotten to states without the love and support of my parents. And that’s my wrestling accomplishment.
